I love looking at maps, whether on the wall, or when there is a world map on television news I often use it as an opportunity to pray for the countries represented rather than just studying the weather patterns!

No matter what the weather, the call of God resound across the world through the mouths of so many witnesses and missions. In Godfrey Birtill’s memorable words, ‘just one touch from the King changes everything!’ May the Lord direct your focus and your prayers – and may you receive a fresh touch from Him today and throughout this coming week.

The theme of the call of God resounding across the planet has been with me these past few days. May this beautiful track from Transfiguration inspire you afresh to pray for the work of God around the world. The music is by Francis Cummings.

May the Lord draw your attention and highlight the particular people, issues and nations he would have you lift to Him and to pray into. For example Venezuela, where the theoretically defeated government is doing all it can to hold onto power.

See this article in the Washington Post, or this one in the Japan Times.
Venezuela economy: Nicolas Maduro declares emergency
but where God is also stirring in many hearts.

The call of God resounds across the earth
From farthest east to deepest south,
In faith-resistant West and hardened northern climes.

Lord, light the fire of Your Spirit’s power
Let the people of God rise up this day.
Let banners wave and trumpets sound,
as the call extends around the world.

Lord, light the fire of Your Spirit’s power
Show us Your strength, as You have done before.
from one end of the earth to the other.
Pour out Your anointing oil
that the world may know that Jesus is alive.

Lord, light the fire of Your Spirit’s power
God of grace and Ruler of all,
You love and weep for these people.
Wash these nations clean,
even as the waves of Your oceans scour the beaches of the world.
High King of Heaven,
hold them close to Your heart.

Raise up missionaries for Your vineyards, O Lord of the Harvest,
evangelists to make You known,
and prophets pastors and teachers to support and sustain the seeds they plant.

Let the clarity of Your blessing rest on the centres You have raised up,
(fellowships, conference centres, godly initiatives…);
refresh the broken-hearted,
and inspire anointed ones.

[Charles Whiston adapted this ancient prayer]

O Come, Holy Spirit, come!
Come as fire and burn within us,
Come as wind and cleanse us,
Come as light and lead us,
Come as truth and teach us,
Come as forgiveness and free us,
Come as love and enfold us;
Come as power and enable us,
Come as life and dwell in us.
Convict us, convert us,
until we are Yours, through and through.

For whoever would save their life will lose it,
but whoever loses their life for Me will find it.
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven;
whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?
Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
For the Son of Man is going to come in His Father’s glory with His angels,
and He will reward each person according to what he has done.

God raises mighty spreading trees from the smallest seeds.

What only three people were privileged to witness on the Mount of Transfiguration, millions now have heard about.

Lord, make Your glory known in our generation
as we speak and sing of You.
Direct singers, authors and producers to the themes that best reflect Your heart,
and to sources that will inform our minds and fire our spirits
to carry forward the work of Christ.

Light fires of revival, and let the touch of heaven rest on all that we speak, write and create in Your name.

Behind the welter of news items that we read and watch lie intensely personal stories.
Each one of us is also living out our personal drama.

Lord, we have only one life to lead;
Help us make it count for You.
In the name of the one true Head of the Church,
Keep Your people from foolish entanglements,
and from setting their hearts on personal gain.

We lift our leaders now into the light of Christ,
That they may embrace Your ideas and lay other ways aside,
That in every way Your church may be as You intend it to be.
